Quneitra, SANA – People of the Occupied Golan marked the 34th anniversary of the National Open Strike, staged in February 14, 1982, reaffirming their rejection of the Israeli identity and adherence to their Syrian identity and homeland.
The strike, which lasted for six months, came to declare rejection of the Israeli Authorities’ decision issued on December 14, 1981 to annex the occupied Syrian Golan and impose its laws, administrative and judicial custody on it.
Golan people stressed that all the Israeli occupation’s decisions are void and of no effect, expressing confidence in liberating the occupied land and defeating terrorism.
Bishr al-Maqt, a former Syrian prisoner in Israeli jails, referred in a statement to the repeated Israeli violations against the Syrian prisoners, calling upon the international community and humanitarian organizations to put pressure on the occupation’s authorities to release all the Syrian prisoners, and first of all Dean of the Syrian prisoners, Sudqi al-Maqt.
al-Maqt stressed that the people of the Golan will remain committed to their homeland, army and leadership in the face of the Israeli enemy and terrorist aggression.
The will of life, steadfastness and resistance of the Golan people will foil the most serious conspiracies and face the hardest challenges to preserve the identity of fathers and ancestors, Issam Shaalan, Golan Mayor said.
For his part, Quneitra Governor Ahmad Sheikh Abdul-Qader said that the Golan People’s Open Strike in February 1982 constituted a firm rejection of the occupation authorities’ racial procedures, extending greetings to the Syrian Arab army for its sacrifices to defend the homeland.
Meanwhile, the Popular Committee for the Liberation of the Golan (PCLG) reaffirmed in a statement that the struggle against the Israeli occupation will continue to completely foil the Zionist project.
“Through their protest against the arbitrary Zionist decision, the Golan people stressed their rejection of the Israeli entity and firm adherence to the homeland Syria,” said the statement of PCLG.
It added that the continued struggle against the Israeli enemy also includes continued fight against the forces of terrorism employed to the service of the Zionist project.
For their part, the Syrians in the occupied Majdal Shams village marked the anniversary by holding a celebration during which Syrian patriotic songs were chanted.
The Israeli annexation decision, which was widely protested, was considered “null and void and without international legal effect” in the Security Council resolution No.497 of 1981.
