Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad met on Tuesday Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and the accompanying delegation.
The deeply-rooted strategic relations between Iran and Syria were highlighted during the talks, which focused on discussing cooperation between the two countries in all fields, mainly in relation to fighting terrorism that is a threat to the entire region and beyond, especially at the time when some regional and international sides continue obstructing counterterrorism efforts and those seeking a peaceful solution in Syria as they keep providing support and cover to the terrorists and stirring tension in the region.
President al-Assad voiced the Syrian people’s appreciation of Iran’s support for Syria in facing terrorism, highlighting the important role which the friendly countries, on top being Iran and Russia, have played to the effect of fostering the Syrians’ steadfastness over five years and achieving victories in their crucial war against Takfiri terrorism, which may, to a large extent, determine the features of a new world map.
For his part, the Iranian Interior Minister reiterated that the position of the Iranian leadership and people in support of Syria is firm and unshakable and stems from the absolute belief that the Syrian people are facing a fierce world war with its tools being obscurantist terrorism and extremist Takfiri thoughts and its risks going beyond Syria and the region.
Last November, President al-Assad stressed during a meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader’s Advisor Ali Akbar Velayati and Assistant Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian that Syria, along with its friends, are resolved to moving on with fighting terrorism, whose elimination would be the major step for consolidating stability in the region and the world and the real entry for the success of any Syrian-made political solution.
