Several activities launched on National Day for Environment

Provinces, SANA- Activities of the National Day for Environment, held by State Ministry of Environmental Affairs under the title of “Our Environment under our protection” kicked off on Sunday.

The activities, marked on 1st of November of each year, are continuous in several provinces and include environmental, scientific and health symposiums and interactive activities with children, field cleaning awareness campaigns as well as awareness campaigns on the rationalizing the consumption of water and electricity.

Implementing an exhibition for environment remnants in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Damascus and Damascus Countryside governorates is also scheduled as part of the annual event.
Activities of the Day, which continue for several days, include afforestation, cleaning campaigns, sporting performances, a marathon, cycling, competitions of children paintings on environment, a training course, and the contest of the environment Robot for juveniles in the Syrian Computer Society.

Minister of State for Environment Affairs Nazira Sarkis said during the celebration in Damascus that celebrating the National Day for Environment is an indication of the national conviction of the importance of cooperation to protect environment and the need for deepening the environmental awareness among all individuals of the society, particularly those working in the environment NGO’s and school clubs.

Sarkis pointed out the need for benefitting from the power of the juveniles and their participation in protecting environment through several activities to fortify the environmental situation.

UNICEF Resident Representative Hanna Singer highlighted the importance of paying attention to environmental issues and following them up constantly to protect people’s health, particularly during childhood, pointing out to the role of the Organization in monitoring the criteria of the potable water and spreading awareness among schoolchildren, through whom other individuals could be reached.
