Homs governor discusses with UNICEF means of improving relief situation in city

Homs, SANA-Homs governor Talal Barazi discussed on Wednesday with Regional director of The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for Middle East and north Africa Peter Salameh means of improving the relief and humanitarian situation in Homs.

“The UN organizations cooperate with the Syrian government in offering aid in the relief side, and in health, education and environment affairs, taking into consideration that more than 80% of the humanitarian aid is offered by the Syrian government,” Homs Governor said in a statement to the press after the meeting.

He added that talks during the meeting concentrated on outlining some important tracks in the field of education during the coming period and evaluating the last stage, saying “efforts are exerted now to help all citizens in Homs.”

Salameh, for his part, said UNICEF has a wide program to offer aids relevant to education, childhood, nutrition and health, affirming that Syria has a brilliant history.

“Homs was a beautiful place, but, unfortunately, it came under destruction because of the war… and the Syrians have proven unbelievable courage to restore life to normal.”
