Al-Moallem stresses to Piazzi the need to combat foreign-backed terrorism

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem, received on Wednesday Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) Sergio Piazzi and the accompanying delegation.

Talks during the meeting focused on the situation in the region and the terrorist threats to which Syria has been exposed for over four years, with al-Moallem stressing the need to combat this terrorism which is being backed by regional and international sides that fund, train, and support terrorists and facilitate their infiltration of Syrian territories, noting that recent events in Idleb and Jisr al-Shughour have exposed the Turkish involvement in supporting terrorists in Syria.

He stressed that terrorism poses a threat to all countries around the world, and combating it requires honest cooperation from all sides.

For his part, Piazzi said that PAM is moving to combat terrorism as per Security Council resolutions which all states must abide by, adding that the Assembly working within the framework of the UN and European organizations to establish a clear perception of what is happening in the region and to integrate the contents of the Security Council’s counterterrorism resolutions in European legislations.

He also asserted that PAM is ready to cooperate with Syria in the field of counterterrorism.
