Royal Jordanian conducts a test flight to Aleppo International Airport

Amman, SANA-Royal Jordanian Airlines operated a test flight to Aleppo International Airport on Sunday, in preparation for resuming flights to Aleppo after a 14-year hiatus.

This follows the rehabilitation of Aleppo International Airport and its opening last week.

Chief Commissioner/CEO of Jordanian Civil Aviation, Haitham Misto, said, according to al-Mamlaka TV, that a “test flight” will be operated in the coming days as part of a comprehensive assessment before deciding on the resumption of official flights between Jordan and Syria.

In a previous statement to al Mamlaka, Misto added that the test flight will be accompanied by a Jordanian technical team to evaluate operational security and safety for national carriers flying to and from Aleppo International Airport.

He said that Royal Jordanian Airlines has submitted an official request to operate flights to Aleppo International Airport.

Syria’s Civil Aviation Authority has announced that Aleppo International Airport will reopen to air traffic starting Tuesday, March 18.
