Moscow: General Assembly resolution to end Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory is important step

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territory is an important step towards recognizing that the practices of the Israeli occupation entity are illegal.

“We believe that the adoption of the current General Assembly resolution was an important step towards the international community’s recognition of the illegal nature of Israeli practices, and will contribute to advancing efforts to establish procedures in the interest of adhering to international law and ending the longest occupation in modern history”, RT quoted the ministry as saying in a statement.

“In this regard, we are forced to point out once again with regret the absence of such important decisions by UN Security Council due to the US. As is well known, over the past period Washington has used its veto five times – often alone – regarding draft resolutions by the Council on a ceasefire and the admission of Palestine to the United Nations”, the statement noted.

On Wednesday, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a resolution demanding the Israeli occupation entity to end its occupation of the Palestinian territory within 12 months, based on an advisory opinion requested by the General Assembly of the International Court of Justice regarding the legal consequences of the policies and practices of “Israel” the occupying power, in Palestine.
