Damascus, SANA- Dean of the Syrian Higher Institute for Music, Musician Andre Ma’alouli was elected as a member of the executive committee of the Arab Music Institutes and Faculties Society during the founding meeting of the society which was held at the Holy Spirit University in Lebanon on March 3rd and 4th.
During its 47th session held in Jordan last year, the Association of Arab Universities decided to establish a society embracing the Arab music institutes and faculties whose headquarters is in Lebanon and whose chairman is Dean of the Holy Spirit University Bishop Yusuf Tannous.
Ma’alouli told SANA that the Syrian Higher Institute for Music agreed to join the society after considering its goals and basis which seek to preserve the Arab musical heritage and exchange experiences and students between the musical academic institutions.
He added that Syria’s membership in the society will play a significant role in conveying an image about its cultural and artistic discourse and about its prominent musical experiences to the Arab member states and to the whole world, and it will reflect the nature of the Syrian people who call for peace and amity.
“We are optimistic that the future of the Syrian Higher Institute for Music will be better than ever and that we will be able to convey a bright image about our artistic culture and abilities all over the whole world, and to prove that the Syrian people can overcome all the obstacles,”Ma’alouli said.
He added that selecting Syria to be a member of the society came as a result of the high experience of the Syrian musicians and the excellence of the graduates regardless of the current circumstances.
The society seeks to unify the musical idioms among the Arab musical institutes to reach an Arab musical dictionary, in addition to improving the situation of the Arab music and providing job opportunities for the graduates of the music institutes and faculties.
The society which embraces 35 member states is internationally acknowledged and it will hold its meetings annually in one of the member states and it will form an Arab orchestra whose members will meet once annually to train and hold a concert.
