UNESCO delegation visits Aleppo Old City to assess earthquake damage to heritage sites

Damascus, SANA- A delegation from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) visited a number of archeological sites in the Old City of Aleppo inscribed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List to see damage caused to the sites due to the earthquake.

Syrian Trust for Development with the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, accompanied the UNESCO delegation based on its role in protecting cultural identity and being an arbitrator member of UNESCO, the Syrian Trust for Development posted on Facebook.

The Trust noted that the visit is the first for UNESCO since the terrorist war on Syria, and aims to assess the extent of damage that befell the Old City in preparation for setting up priorities for urgent intervention for affected places, and studying the financing of some projects that need urgent emergency intervention, such as the Aleppo Citadel to to help restore, protect them from extinction and prolong the urban life of these sites.
