Three million Euros for quake-affected in Syria and Turkey provided by Austria

Vienna, SANA- Austrian government announced Wednesday donating three million euros from External Disaster Fund of Foreign Affairs Ministry for the affected by the devastating earthquake hit Syria and Turkey recently.

‘Providing humanitarian assistance and support in disasters has become more important now, so Austria will provide three million euros from the disaster fund to relief organizations there’, Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Wednesday.

In turn, Austrian Vice Chancellor Werner Kugler said ‘We stand by the affected people in Syria and Turkey in this difficult situation, as scale of destruction is also evident in northwestern Syria and southeastern Turkey, stressing his concern about reports regarding the situation there due to the quake.

For his part, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said that out of three million euros, 2 million euros will go to the Red Cross and Red Crescent Organizations, and one million euros to the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

He added that the quake hit Syria and Turkey caused disastrous damage in addition to the suffering of hundreds of thousands of people.
