Mikdad to ICRC President: International humanitarian efforts should be mobilized to meet challenges of earthquake

Damascus-SANA -Foreign and Expatriates Minister , Fayssal Mikdad, asserted the importance of the humanitarian role played by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Syria during the years of crisis, and the importance of strengthening this role and the existing cooperation with the Syrian government to confront the effects of the devastating earthquake, in cooperation with SARC.

Meeting with Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the accompanying delegation, Minister Mikdad, referred to all the facilitations and support provided by Syria to relief and rescue teams in various regions of the country to mitigate the effects of the earthquake on the affected people.

Mikdad called for mobilizing all possible international humanitarian efforts to address the challenge arising from the earthquake, pointing to the impacts of unilateral inhumane sanctions on the capabilities of the Syrian state to face this disaster.

President of ICRC, in turn, expressed her deepest condolences and sympathy to Syria and the families of the victims and those affected by the devastating earthquake.

She underlined that ICRC will spare no efforts to alleviate the suffering of the affected people at present time, and work to support subsequent recovery efforts.
