Moscow, SANA- Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia said Monday that sanctions of Western countries are the main reason for the worsening of the humanitarian situation in Syria, according to Russian News Agency Ria Novosti.
Nebenzia’s speech came during a UN Security Council meeting on Monday .
“Western delegations describe their efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Syria, but they are diligently avoiding another extremely troubling issue – the punitive unilateral sanctions that hit the Syrian people,” Nebenzya said.
According to the Russian diplomat, “these sanctions are the main factor in the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Syria.”
“In fact, Western countries deliberately aggravate the situation in Syria, in an attempt to destabilize the situation in the country,” he said.
On Monday, the UN Security Council adopted the resolution No. 2672 to extend the mechanism its resolution No. 2642 for the year 2022 on the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria until 10 July 2023.
