Five drug pushers arrested, quantities of Hashish and Heroin seized

Damascus, SANA – Drugs Combating Department arrested five drug pushers who were in possession of 6.5 kg of Hashish, 295 Captagon tablets and an amount of Heroin that were in their possession, a source at the Interior Ministry said Saturday.

The source added that three electronic scales used to measure drugs were also confiscated.

There has been recently a flurry of drug-related arrests in the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to keep teh country free of drugs, the latest was last month when 20 kg of Hashish were seized in possession of a drug smuggler in Damascus Countryside.

Earlier, Interior Minister Mohammad al-Shaar said Syria is internationally recognized as being among the top free-drug countries in terms of cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale.

Syria, however, is a passage for drug smuggling being located in an area between countries of drug production and those of drug consumption.
