Mikdad, Dzhopua discuss bolstering Syrian-Abkhazian economic relations

Sokhumi, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad discussed Friday with First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture Beslan Dzhopua prospects for developing bilateral economic relations between Syria and Abkhazia.

During the meeting held in Abkhazia, Dzhopua stressed his country’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Syria in all fields, expressing his country’s great appreciation for the decision of the Syrian Arab Republic’s government to recognize the sovereignty and independence of Abkhazia.

For his part, Mikdad indicated that Syria’s decision to recognize Abkhazia independence and establish diplomatic relations between the two countries represents the deeply-rooted the historic relations binding the two peoples.

Both sides also discussed the agreements signed between the two countries and mechanisms for expanding economic cooperation in all areas of common interest.

It was also agreed to hold the next meeting of the Syrian-Abkhazian joint committee as soon as possible.
