Mikdad: Omani Foreign Minister’s visit to Damascus is turning point

Damascus, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad, discussed on Monday with Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, issues of common concern.

Mikdad, in a statement to reporters following talks held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, stressed the importance of the visit which comes within the framework of joint Arab action and Arab solidarity in addition to the establishment of best relations among Arab countries.

 “The visit of the Omani Minister is a turning point and important, it takes its dimensions through the deeply-rooted relations that bind the two friendly countries and peoples, and between President Bashar al-Assad and His Majesty Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq. So, the meeting of President Al-Assad with Minister Busaidi was an opportunity to address issues in the framework of joint Arab action and Arab solidarity,” Minister Mikdad said.

For his part, Al-Busaidi said “I was honored to meet President Bashar Al-Assad and  convey to him greetings and the message of His Majesty, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, to the Syrian leadership and to the brotherly Syrian people.”

“The message stresses the deeply-rooted relations between the two countries and peoples,  and we aspire to deepen our common interests, whether the economic, commercial, or  the cultural and heritage ones,” Minister Busaidi said, hoping the coming period would witness “renewed movement” in all promising domains of cooperation.

Mikdad, responding to a question about Syria’s return to the Arab League, said: “the last meeting of Arab foreign ministers was a consultative one during which some Arab issues were discussed in an informal way, and we are always optimistic in the present and future of our nation.”

In turn, al-Busaidi said, in response to the same question “we are optimistic in these meetings and discussions.
