Damascus, SANA –The People’s Assembly condemned on Wednesday the “coward” terrorist attack which targeted a school in Peshawar city in Pakistan on Tuesday.
An armed terrorist group burst into a school in Peshawar city in Pakistan on Tuesday, claiming the lives of 141 people, mostly schoolchildren. The Taliban movement claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.
Affirming the necessity of coordinating international and governmental efforts on bilateral, regional and international levels for wiping out terrorism, the Assembly stressed the importance that a comprehensive plan that starts in politics, media, culture and ends on the battlefield be put in place.
Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham addressed two identical letters to Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari and Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq condemning the heinous crime.
“We in the Syrian People’s Assembly condemn these murderers who bear takfiri extremist thought,” al-Laham said.
“We assert standing by the Pakistani people, government and leadership in combating terrorism which is targeting lives, civilization and noble values that have brought our peoples together, and we surely support Pakistan’s deterrent procedures against the expansion of terrorism which is supported by well-known states in the Middle East and the colonial West,” al-Laham added.
Al-Laham pointed out that this “heinous crime” and all other crimes terrorist groups are committing in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Australia, Russia and elsewhere around the world “reinforce our confidence that those who justify these acts are implicitly complicit in any terrorist act which is targeting innocent people in the world.”
“We must work together to stop any form of support, assistance or cover provided to terrorists from whichever source or under any justification they might come under,” the Speaker noted.
Al-Laham concluded his letters by saying “ we in the People’s Assembly express our sympathy and solidarity with you during this hard time, wishing the injured a swift recovery and hoping that Pakistan will eradicate terrorism soon so that Pakistani people can live in peace.”
