Moscow, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister ,Fayssal Mikdad, stressed on Thursday that the Syrian -Russian relations have developed during the latest years, particularly in the fight against terrorism and in the strategic relations , adding that bilateral cooperation will witness more achievements during the upcoming months.
Mikdad, in a joint press conference following talks held with Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, thanked Russia for supporting Syria in its war against terrorism and putting an end to the western arrogance and violence of the international law, saying that some western states impose economic sanctions on other countries and starve their people in service of political agendas.
He added that the two counties agreed to expand the relations in a way that foil the impacts of the illegitimate western coercive measures.
Answering a question raised by SANA correspondent in Moscow, Mikdad said that Syria and Russia are combating terrorism which pose threat to the entire humanity, adding that Syria has been resisting terrorism for ten years and it struggles against the foreign interference and terrorism at the same time.
Mikdad affirmed that western states’ refusal to contribute to the reconstruction process in Syria sends a clear message to terrorists to continue their crimes ,adding that the biggest interest of US is to try to destroy Syria and that the current US administration has sought to destroy the international stability, especially through its withdrawal from a number of international conventions and agreements.
The Minister said that Trump’s proclamation about the occupied Syrian Golan is null and it violates the international legitimacy resolutions.
He added that the most dangerous threat against the work of the Committee of Discussing the Constitution is the interference of the western countries in it.
For his part , Lavrov reiterated Russia’s firm stance regarding preserving Syria’s territorial integrity , sovereignty and independence , asserting that only the Syrian people have the right of self-determination.
“Some countries hinder efforts to find a solution to the crisis in Syria, and impose economic sanctions on it in a violation of the UN relevant Resolutions, ” the Russian Minister went on saying.
He stated that the two sides held talks on the current situation in Syria and main issues on the regional agenda, in addition to discussing the enhancement of bilateral relations and the latest developments in the field of the political process, hailing the positive progress that has been achieved in the work of the Mini-Committee of Discussing the Constitution.
In a reply to a question raised by SANA correspondent, Lavrov clarified that a comprehensive agreement on the economic cooperation between the two countries is to be initialized soon, adding that during the past days, a set of resolutions on supporting the reconstruction process in Syria have been adopted.
