Nebenzia: Economic sanctions imposed on Syria hinder efforts to confront COVID-19

Moscow, SANA- Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia stressed that the economic sanctions imposed on Syria prevent providing it with medical equipment needed for confronting the Coronavirus.

Russia Today website quoted Nebenzia as saying during a UN Security Council session via video that the sanctions imposed by the US, the EU , Canada and Turkey on Syria harm the Syrian economy and people and prevent providing Syria with medicine and medical equipment which are necessary for fighting the Coronavirus.

He pointed out that the fight against Coronavirus will not be effective unless Syria restores its complete sovereignty, calling upon the western countries to extend help to Syria instead of exploiting the current situation.

Nebenzia held the countries which occupy Syrian lands, and the terrorist organizations presented in Syria responsible for confronting the Coronavirus at those areas.
