Mikdad: Combating terrorism in Syria will continue in parallel with political process

Baku, SANA_ Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad affirmed on Saturday that the counter-terrorism operation in Syria will continue in parallel with the political process based on intra-Syrian dialogue led and owned by Syria and without foreign interference.

Heading Syria’s delegation to the 18th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit currently held in Baku, Azerbaijan, Mikdad stressed that attacks of the Turkish regime and the so-called “international coalition” led by Washington on Syrian territory are condemned and rejected and constitute a violation of the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions that affirm respect for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria.

He clarified that Syria considers that one of the most dangerous things facing the world today is the spread of terrorism phenomenon regionally and internationally by the support , finance, armament and justifications of governments of some countries which became known to all.

Mikdad said that the crimes committed by Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists and their affiliated organizations in Syria and in other countries constitute a clear evidence on the aggravation of the terrorism phenomenon .

“The United States and some European Union countries to condone the fight against terrorism and adopt a selective approach in combating terrorism  proves that they have no political will to eradicate it,” Mikdad said, demanding the adoption of real deterrent measures to hold accountable the countries that support and finance terrorism.

He called for coordinating anti-terrorism efforts with the country concerned and not to use counter-terrorism as a pretext for aggression and violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

“Syria is determined to liberate every inch of its land from terrorism and from any illegal foreign presence.” Mikdad said.

He added that the first beneficiary of what is happening in Syria and the region is the Israeli occupation entity which continues to commit crimes against those under occupation and launch attacks on Syria and other countries.

Mikdad stressed that the terrorist war and the repeated aggression on Syria will not divert it from its inalienable right to fully restore the occupied Golan by all means guaranteed by international law and in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions, especially the UN Security Council Resolutions Nos. 242,  338 and 497 .

He emphasized that Trump’s Declaration on the Golan does not change anything regarding  the legal status of Golan; “it is a Syrian Arab land and will return to the Syrian national sovereignty sooner or later.”

He renewed Syria’s  firm support to the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, establish an independent state on all its national territory, with al-Quds “Jerusalem” as its capital, and refugees’ right toreturn in accordance with resolution 194 of 1948 .

Mikdad affirmed that Syria stands by the Palestinian people in rejecting  the so-called US-Israeli “deal of the century” to liquidate the Palestinian issue.

Syria strongly condemns as a means to achieve political goals and agendas, the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on it and on some of the NAM countries, including Iran, Venezuela, the DPRK, Cuba and Belarus, by the United States, the European Union and other countries.” He said.

Mikdad reiterated Syria’s continued fight against terrorism to save its people from its dangers, underlining its keenness to participate in the Astana process, which proved its effectiveness whether on the ground or in the formation of a committee of discussing the constitution.

He stressed that the solution to the crisis is based on a Syrian-Syrian dialogue led and owned by Syria and without outside interference or preconditions and in a manner that preserves Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

The 18th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit was inaugurated on Friday in the capital city of Azerbaijan, Baku.
