Damascus, SANA-The United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura arrived on Saturday afternoon in Damascus. This is his second visit to Syria after he took up his current assignment as the UN envoy to Syria last July.
In a press statement following his meeting with President Bashar al-Assad during his last visit to Damascus in September, De Mistura said “the terrorist threat has become a source of global worry that is shared by all,” indicating that fighting terrorism “has become a priority for us.”
As he underlined need to help the Syrian people reach a comprehensive political solution to the crisis, the UN official emphasized that the emerging facts and developments, including the danger of terrorist organizations identified in the UN Security Council resolution 2170, should be taken into account.
