Mikdad: Occupied Golan is an integral part of Syria, reclaiming it a priority

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad asserted that the occupied Syrian Golan is an integral part of Syria’s territory, and reclaiming it from Israeli occupation by all the means guaranteed by international law is a priority in Syria’s national policy.

In an interview given to Al Mayadeen TV on Friday, Mikdad said the United States is the biggest rogue state in the world because it sponsors terrorism, defies UN resolutions on the occupied Syrian Golan, and poses a threat to international security and peace.

He said that US President Donald Trump’s statement about the Golan violates the UN Charter and principles, which stipulated in various resolutions including Security Council resolution no. 497 of 1981 that the Golan is occupied territory and any steps taken by the Israeli occupation authorities on it are null, void, and without legal effect.

Mikdad said reclaiming the occupied Syrian Golan is a non-negotiable right that does not have a statute of limitations, and the complete withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Golan up to the June 4th 1967 line must be implemented.

He said that the people of the occupied Syrian Golan have always affirmed that their land is an integral part of Syria and confirmed their adherence to their Syrian identity, nationality, and land.

Mikdad noted that the people of the occupied Syrian Golan are still resisting the Israeli occupation’s attempts to Judaize their land and displace them, and they will foil the attempts by the US administration and the Israeli occupation to change the status of the Golan, asserting that these attempts are destined to fail.
