Moscow, SANA – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov renewed necessity for supporting the international community for the efforts exerted towards reaching a political settlement to the crisis in Syria on the basis of UN resolution No. 2254 and facilitating the return of the Syrian displaced to their country.
Lavrov said in a press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi “We agree on the necessity of continuing cooperation in Astana formula and reaching a political solution for ending the crisis in Syria in accordance to UNSC resolution No. 2254 and on the importance of the return of the relations between Syria with the Arab countries in accordance with principles of the international law and UN Charter.
Lavrov called for facilitating the return of the displaced Syrians to their country after the Syrian government created the convenient circumstances for them to come back, pointing out that the obstacles put by western countries for their return is unacceptable.
With regards to the US announcement on the withdrawal of its forces from Syria, Lavrov said “US’s declaration on ending its illegitimate presence in Syria is a correct step, but we are waiting for acts not words, we hope that we get explanations on Washington’s plans after withdrawal through our common channels.”
For his part, Safadi stressed the need for finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria that preserves its unity and independence and restores its security and stability as well as its important role in the joint Arab Action.
