Churkin: Airstrikes against ISIS in Syria without coordination with Syrian government violate international law

New York, SANA – Russia’s Permanent Representative at the UN Vitaly Churkin said that any airstrike against the terrorist organization ISIS on Syrian territories without coordination with the Syrian government would constitute a serious violation of the basic principles of international law and may have devastating effects on the situation in Syria, including the humanitarian situation.

In a statement on Friday, Churkin stressed that confronting ISIS or Jabhat al-Nusra must be carried out according to the principles of the UN, international law, and full cooperation with the region’s countries, asserting that any other steps would be illegal and would undermine regional peace and stability.
