Aleppo, SANA – The 70-year-old Mohammed Soubhi al-Shawash(nicknamed Abu Sabeih) has finally returned to his shop for Oriental embroideries and nylon in Khan al-Harir Street nearby the Grand Umayyad Mosque in the Old City of Aleppo and dust off the remnants of years of war.
Abu Sabeih recalled memories of the good old days when the market was crowded with people till the terrorist groups invaded the place, forced all tradesmen and owners of shops to leave and set all stores on fire.
He related the details of his departure from home with his wife and two daughters leaving behind his store and goods worth more than SYP 200 million.
After the terror clearance operation and the government’s announcement about the possibility of return, Abu Sabeih said that he went to inspect the situation of his store which was partially destroyed and started to rehabilitate it so he would able to begin once again.
The elderly man called upon the shops’ owners in the same street and the Old Souk in Aleppo to come back and revive the market, hoping that the governmental bodies would pay more attention to the area after removing the debris and conduct maintenance works to power, water and communications networks.
