Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly discussed on Monday during a session chaired by Speaker Hammoudeh Sabbagh the performance of the Health Minister and other issues related to its work.
The Assembly members called for paying more attention to the health and medical situation, and to secure medical services in the areas liberated by the Syrian Arab Army, stressing the importance of tightening the monitoring of pharmaceutical factories and private hospitals in terms of their prices and medical services.
They also called for increasing the number of ambulances as well as the medical and the technical staff in the public hospitals and health centers, in addition to carrying out maintenance for the non-operational medical equipment and the need to secure access to medicine for chronic diseases and cancer.
During the session, Health Minister Dr Nizar Yazigi said that the Ministry is taking prompt initiatives to rehabilitate the health centers in various areas restored by the army, pointing out that the ministry signed 28 contracts to purchase medical equipment for all hospitals in Syria through the Iranian credit line, noting that five ambulances have been distributed recently in several provinces.
The Minister affirmed that all required medical supplies including medicine for cancer and chronic diseases are distributed every three months for each province separately according to the medical distribution chart set by the Ministry.
Yazigi also pointed out that the ministry is working to repair all non-working medical devices in accordance with the priorities and available resources.
