Art exhibition featuring 43 artists from across Syria held in Damascus

Damascus, SANA – 43 artists from across Syria showcased their works in “Halet Hub Q1” art exhibition held at Alef Noun gallery in Damascus, presenting a wide variety of pieces including paintings, sculpture, calligraphy, and digital art.

The exhibition was attended by Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban said she is glad to attend this exhibition that features artists from across the country including ones from Deir Ezzor and Raqqa.

Shaaban said that bringing Syria’s prestigious artistic identity to light is a form of resistance because the war on Syria seeks to blot out its identity, heritage, and civilization, adding that what is remarkable about this event is that it brought together prominent older artists and aspiring young ones.

The title of the exhibition, which can be translated as “State of Love Q1,”  plays on the relative similarity in Arabic between the words “hub” which means love, “habaq” which means basil (which has special significance in Syrian culture), and “haq” which means right. This is inspired by the phrase “between love and right a bridge of basil grows.”
