Bogdanov: new round of peace talks on Syria in Astana is likely in early July

Moscow, SANA- A new round of Astana meeting on Syria is likely to be held in early July in the Kazakh capital of Astana, Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Tuesday.

Bogdanov told Sputnik news agency that talks are underway with Iran and Turkey to hold new session of Astana meeting on Syria after the holy month of Ramadan, noting that a new round of talks will be held in Geneva immediately following the Astana meeting.

The Kazakh capital hosted four meetings on Syria where they all stressed commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, in addition to enhancing cessation of hostilities in the country. In the last Astana meeting, held by the beginning of last May, the Russian memorandum on de-escalation zones in Syria
was signed.
