Homs, SANA – The process of evacuating the last group of gunmen and their family members who refused to join the reconciliation agreement in Homs’s al-Waer neighborhood started Thursday evening, paving the way for ending all the armed manifestations in the neighborhood and declaring Homs city as free of arms and militants.

Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi told SANA that 300 persons, including around 70 militants, are expected to leave the neighborhood towards al-Dar al-Kabeera in the northern countryside of Homs province.

The governor said that the evacuation process will continue on Friday and Saturday as a total of 2500 people, including 600 gunmen, are expected to exit via two buses heading to Jarabulus and Idleb, indicating that next Saturday, al-Waer reconciliation agreement will be accomplished.

He said that the Internal Security Forces units will enter the neighborhood to maintain security there. The maintenance teams will also enter the neighborhood to direct the process of rehabilitation in it, noting that the teams have already begun to rehabilitate the road leading to the neighborhood.

The governor said that there have been contacts with the committees in the northern countryside of Homs for the reconciliation and settlement process for more than a year, adding that communications have been intensified in the past period and new steps are expected to be taken in this regard after implementing al-Waer agreement.
