Turkish Party leader: Policies of AKP towards Syria built on mistakes

Ankara, SANA- Joint leader of the Turkish Peoples Democratic Party (HDP), member of the parliament Selahattin Demirtas said the policies of the government of Justice and Development Party (AKP) towards Syria were wrong from the very beginning and were built on mistakes.

Indicating Turkish aggression against Syria last Sunday, Demirtas said in a press statement, the Turkish government did not take any measure in facing the terrorist organization of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq (ISIS).

Last Sunday, Turkish forces swept into the Syrian territory overnight and relocated the tomb of Suleyman Shah from the northeastern Raqqa province where it existed in a “suspicious” act that reveals the Turkish government’s close connection with terrorist organizations operating in the area.

HDP has repeatedly affirmed that ISIS constitutes a threat to Turkey and AKP government has to take a correct position towards it, Yurt daily quotes Demirtas as saying.

Separately, the former ambassador and AKP member of Parliament Othman Koroturk qoustioned the timing of the Turkish aggression against Syria particularly as it came just after the US and Turkey signed an agreement to train terrorists under what they call it “Moderate opposition”.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry said this act represents a clear transgression against Syria and its sovereignty and territory, which means that the Turkish government has performed an act that violates the rules of international law which include respecting national sovereignty and prohibition aggression.
