Minister of Islamic Endowments launches an Islamic-Christian youth dialogue initiative

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Islamic Endowments “Awqaf” Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed announced launching a proposal for cooperation initiative between the youth religious team at the Ministry and the youth directorates at the Syrian churches under the title “Cordiality Bonds and Citizenship Ties between Muslims and Christians in Syria” to fortify the Syrian generations from extremism.

Visiting Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East and Supreme Leader of the Syriac Orthodox Church, Mar Ignatius Aphrem II, Minister al-Sayyed said that the initiative includes a number of the axes such as the role of the Muslims and the Christians in building civilization, relations between Muslims and Christians through the Quran and the Gospel, in addition to facing Takfiri extremism.

For his part, Patriarch Aphrem II stressed that the initiative is very good and that it is an important step towards facing the extremist mentality and all forms of extremism and terrorism as a one hand in cooperation with the Syrian people.

Minister al-Sayyed also visited the Mariamite Cathedral of Damascus and discussed the initiative with Patriarchal Vicar Aphrem Maalouli and Bishops Mousa al-Khouri and Luka al-Khouri.

Bishop Maalouli also welcomed the initiative, considering that it will be a basis for a new rapprochement in the ideas among the Syrian youths and that it will contribute to uniting the efforts and visions in the face of the Takfiri extremist mentality.

Minister al-Sayyed congratulated Patriarch Aphrem II and Bishop Maalouli on the Easter and the Independence Day.
