China’s Special Envoy to Syria stresses need to combat terrorism

Tehran, SANA–China’s Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan stressed that combating terrorism is essential to solve the crisis in Syria, adding that the implementation of cessation of hostilities depends on eliminating terrorists.

The Chinese Ambassador’s remarks came during a meeting with the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussein Jaberi Ansari in Tehran Tuesday.

He said that Beijing hopes to continue consultations and exchange viewpoints with Iran on Syria, calling for taking appropriate measures to sustain the cessation of hostilities agreement.

Ambassador Xiaoyan described as “positive” the efforts exerted during the two rounds of Astana talks.

For his part, Jaberi Ansari noted that Astana meetings aimed at speeding up talks towards solving the crisis in Syria politically through preserving the cessation of hostilities and moving forward to reach national reconciliation.
