Damascus University's Faculty of Dentistry achieves European Accreditation through LEADER Program

Damascus, SANA- The Faculty of Dentistry at Damascus University has officially received accreditation under the LEADER program, offered by the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE).

Damascus University explained in a statement Monday, that this accreditation followed a comprehensive evaluation process. The process began with the faculty’s registration in the program last year, followed by the preparation of a self-assessment file in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Center at Damascus University.

The university provided all necessary support, including improving infrastructure and furnishing required documents and supplies.

The university noted that the evaluation was conducted online between March 19 and 23 of this year. It included meetings with the faculty administration, teaching staff, and students from both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This was coordinated by Assistant Professor Dr. Amira al-Nour, Director of the Quality Center at Damascus University, and Professor Maria Van Harten, representing the European body.

Damascus University highlighted that the evaluation resulted in the faculty’s acceptance into the LEADER program with a set of improvement suggestions that consider the circumstances Syria has faced.

The university emphasized that this step is fundamental to developing medical education at the Faculty of Dentistry.

The program spans five years and includes regular follow-ups from the European Association to enhance and develop the educational process within the faculty. The aim is for the faculty to achieve a level of excellence in dental education by the end of this period.

According to the statement, Damascus University’s Faculty of Dentistry is committed to diligently working on improving all educational and administrative processes, developing its teaching staff, enhancing educational outcomes, and boosting the reputation of its graduates. This effort aims to serve its pursuit of academic excellence and elevate the standing of medical education in Syria.

Damascus University is the only Syrian university accepted into this prestigious European program.
