For the first time, Damascus University includes in the British Times Asian Country Rankings

Damascus, SANA-For the first time, Damascus University has been included in the Asian countries classification of the British Times Rankings, making it the first Syrian university to achieve the scientific and educational conditions required for this internationally approved classification, which is considered the most important educational and research classification for universities and research centers in Asia.

Director of the Rankings Office at Damascus University, Dr. Marwan Al-Rai, clarified in a statement to SANA on Thursday, that the Asian countries classification includes 853 of the best Asian universities and research centers, out of more than 12,000 universities and research centers present in the entire Asian continent, and Damascus University came in the +601 category of this classification.

Dr. al-Raai pointed out that the British Newspaper the Times reported in a number of its reports the results of this classification announced during a two-day conference, and the results showed the entry of four new countries into the classification for the first time in its history, namely Bahrain, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Syria through the University of Damascus.

Dr. al-Raai said that the aforementioned ranking is based on 18 criteria related to scientific research at the university and the quality of the educational process, as well as the overall international outlook toward the institution, that is, the people who interacted and collaborated with it from various countries around the world.

He pointed out that researchers from the University of Damascus received awards in the countries of the United Arab Emirates, China and India, and this contributed to the entry of Damascus University into this classification.

It is noteworthy that the University of Damascus, after entering the Asian countries’ ranking, is now present among 19 global classifications, after being limited to only 4 rankings at the end of 2023.
