Int’l Cooperation Commission, Islamic Development Bank discuss cooperation prospects

Representatives of the Bank in several Arab countries reviewed, during a “Zoom” conference, the Bank’s operational mechanism, how to provide assistance, and the types of projects it targets.

They emphasized the Bank’s aspiration to redevelop relations with Syria, to embark on reconstruction and economic recovery operations by developing plans to meet the requirements and aspirations of the youth by helping them create projects that achieve development and empower them economically.

Khalil Ahmed Hassan, Director of Country Operations for the Regional Office of the Islamic Development Bank Group, said that many projects are currently under review. However, the bank is waiting for the Syrian government to set its priorities.

He hoped for the economic sanctions imposed on Syria to be lifted soon to revitalize joint cooperation, rebuild youth capacities in project management, and open markets for their products.

In turn, Musab Badawi, the acting head of the commission, expressed readiness for full cooperation with the bank, reviewing agreements that linked the commission with the bank before 2011.

He affirmed that the commission is looking forward to building broader and more comprehensive relations in the coming phase, while seeking to increase grants and assistance and finance projects in the fields of infrastructure and energy.
