Damascus – SANA
The Syrian Ministry of Information inaugurated Monday the first workshop on the Media Professional Code of Conduct in Damascus under the slogan “Professional Media… Responsible Word.”

The event brought together 25 journalists from local, official, Arab, and foreign media outlets, alongside academics and independent media professionals.
The Code, drafted by a specialized committee of ten members including ministry officials, experts, and independent journalists, is a non-binding legal document but remains mandatory for those working in state institutions. It aims to strengthen media freedom in line with constitutional and international standards.
During the workshop, participants discussed the draft through five working groups, addressing the need to distinguish between journalists and influencers, reinforce respect for truth, counter hate speech, and consider integrating the Code into educational curricula.
Branded as “Minus Zero” to mark its foundational stage, the Code will be further debated in similar workshops planned across other Syrian governorates.
