Damascus, June 2 (SANA) Syria’s Tourism Minister, Mazen al-Salhani, said the ministry has begun contacting investors to reactivate a number of hotels and tourism facilities owned by the ministry and the private sector that have been closed since 2006.
Speaking during a dialogue session at the Syrian Private Sector Dialogue 2026 in Damascus, al-Salhani said the ministry is also working to strengthen the tourism workforce through free training programmes.
He said the ministry, through the Hotel Institute and in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, has launched free training courses and allocated 1,000 scholarships for personnel training.
Al-Salhani added that the ministry is coordinating with local communities across the governorates to implement community-based tourism initiatives, citing their role in supporting local development.
He also said a Tourist Police Force has been launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, with personnel deployed across various regions to enhance the security of visitors and tourists.
