Homs April 16 (SANA) A spring festival celebrating local heritage and community life has opened in the central Syrian city of Homs, drawing large crowds to cultural and artistic events.
The “Nisan Homs – Spring of Syria” festival began Wednesday in al-Arbaeen Square, featuring traditional markets, performances and family activities inspired by the city’s “Khamsinat” seasonal traditions.
Syrian Culture Minister Mohammad Yassin Saleh said the event highlights shared cultural identity and social values such as solidarity and coexistence, while strengthening connections between communities.
Organizers said the opening included musical performances, scout parades and participation by children’s groups, including orphans and children with disabilities, in a festive atmosphere.
Visitors described the event as vibrant and diverse, noting it coincides with a traditional local celebration held on the third Thursday of April.
The festival runs until April 24 and aims to revive historic spring customs, support local crafts and traditional sweets, and reinforce Homs’ role as a cultural hub.
