For the 10th day in a row, international efforts continue to contain the wildfires in northern Latakia

Latakia, SANA-Syrian civil defense and firefighting teams, in collaboration with teams from friendly and brotherly nations, continue for the 10th consecutive day their intense efforts to extinguish wildfires raging in the northern Latakia countryside.

Firefighting crews from Syria, Turkey, Jordan, and Qatar are working to cool hotspots that were brought under control in areas like Kessab, Jabal al-Nisr, and the forests of Frunluq and al-Atira. Iraqi teams also arrived, on Saturday, and are expected to join operations.

Aerial firefighting missions are being carried out by aircraft from Syria, Turkey, Jordan, and Lebanon, while heavy machinery continues its firefighting operations.

Latakia’s Civil Defense Director, Abdel-Kafi Keyal, stated that firefighters are still operating in critical zones such as Burj al-Zahi, al-Atira, and Jabal al-Nisr, affirming ongoing efforts to fully control the fires.

Keyal praised the regional cooperation in facing this environmental disaster, highlighting the participation of teams from Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, and Lebanon in accelerating efforts to control the blaze.

Qatari rescue and firefighting crews also joined today, reinforcing the joint operations room and supporting firefighters in protecting communities and the environment.
