Jordanian firefighting crews arrive in Syria to support wildfire containment efforts

Damascus, SANA–As part of regional cooperation in responding to natural disasters, Jordanian Civil Defense teams arrived Sunday morning in Syria’s Lattakia Governorate to assist in extinguishing wildfires that have been raging for four consecutive days in the northern countryside.

According to the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, the Jordanian teams entered Syrian territory through the Nasib border crossing in Daraa Governorate and immediately proceeded to the affected areas to support Syrian Civil Defense operations.

The ministry noted that this deployment reflects the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s readiness to provide assistance, particularly given the difficulty of controlling fires in dense forests and rugged terrain.

Meanwhile, Syrian Civil Defense teams—supported by 62 firefighting units, forestry brigades, ground crews from Turkey, and both helicopter and agricultural aircraft—continue their efforts to suppress the flames and prevent further spread in mountainous regions.

This regional response underscores the importance of Arab and international cooperation in addressing environmental disasters and protecting Syria’s forests from recurring summer threats.
