President Al-Sharaa issues a decree granting an exceptional academic year to students who have used up all their chances to pass at universities and institute

President Al-Sharaa issues a decree granting an exceptional academic year to students who have used up all their chances to pass at universities and institute

Damascus, SANA – President of the Republic, Mr. Ahmad al-Sharaa, issued on Monday Decree No. (98) of 2025 granting an exceptional academic year to students who have used up all their chances to pass the university degree stage as of the academic year 2010-2011 until the date of issuing this decree, whether or not they benefited from a previous decree.

The decree also stipulates that an exceptional academic year will be granted to the student of qualification and specialization studies, and the student of postgraduate studies (course year), who has failed to take apply to the exams from outside the university, as of the academic year 2010-2011 until the date of issuance of this decree.

The decree granted a master’s student who completed the course years and exhausted the specified period of registration in the thesis stage, starting from the academic year 2010-2011 until the date of issuance of this decree, a new period of registration within one academic year from the date of issuance of this decree.

The decree also granted students of the master’s and doctoral degrees (thesis) who were dismissed from the degree as of 15-09-2010 until the date of issuing this decree, one calendar year from the date of registration, provided that the student registers within two years from the date of the issuance of this decree.

The provisions of this decree apply to students of higher institutes affiliated with universities, higher institutes affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, institutes under the supervision of the Supreme Council for Technical Education, and students of private universities.
