Finance Minister Meets with Industrialists and Traders in Daraa Province

Daraa, SANA- Minister of Finance, Mr. Muhammad Yusr Barniyeh, met Saturday with traders and industrialists in Daraa province to address challenges in the financial sector, focusing on rebuilding trust and efficiency through enhanced communication and resolving issues such as blocked funds and withdrawal limits.

During the meeting, Minister Barniyeh emphasized the ministry’s commitment to a transparent relationship with the private sector and businessmen, and its efforts to create a favorable environment for investors.
He said, “We are working on a new, fair, and transparent tax reform system, based on simple procedures and reduced taxes and fees.”

The Minister added: “The Ministry of Finance relies on rebuilding trust and providing tax exemptions to encourage investment, while extending support and incentives to all sectors, including the agricultural sector. We are also granting additional exemptions and facilities to peripheral and disaster-stricken cities for reconstruction, which will contribute to creating new job opportunities.”

He clarified that the financial system is gradually improving, and that there are some challenges that are being overcome, and Syria has plans and programs to improve the living conditions of citizens, including increasing salaries and wages for public sector workers and launching major investments across Syria that will benefit both the public and private sectors.

The Minister of Finance addressed the financial situation under the former regime, which corrupted society and drove away investors. He considered the next phase to be a platform for partnership and confidence-building, new tax programs and exemptions, and support for small business owners and microfinance.

Daraa Governor Anwar al-Zoubi pointed to the former regime’s corrupt practices in government departments and institutions, including the financial sector, and the need to develop a modern vision and enact flexible laws consistent with the governorate’s development plan.
