Information Minister discusses cooperation in Transitional Justice with delegation from Swiss Organization ” Hirondelle “

Information Minister discusses cooperation in Transitional Justice with delegation from Swiss Organization " Hirondelle "

Damascus, SANA- Information Minister Dr. Hamza al-Mustafa discussed with a delegation from the Swiss organization ” Hirondelle‏ “, which boosts peace and human dignity through the media; Media cooperation mechanisms in light of the transitional justice period that Syria is currently experiencing.

During the meeting held on Wednesday at the Ministry, Minister Mustafa stated that the Syrian state is adopting a transitional justice system based on transparency and participation, instead of retaliatory justice.

He stressed the necessity of ensuring that this stage is equitable for everyone, and highlighted the initiation of press conferences and community dialogues to guarantee that all developments are effectively conveyed to the public.

Minister Mustafa highlighted the Ministry of Information’s commitment to providing comprehensive and transparent coverage of the activities of the Transitional Justice Commission as well as the Commission for Missing Persons.

He described how Syria faces significant opportunities and challenges following 14 years of revolution, which requires a strong and informed media.

The Minister of Information also welcomed the Swiss delegation’s initiative, looking forward to long-term cooperation in media and journalism fields, implementing specialized programs on political issues, and the enhancing media infrastructure.

He highlighted that Syrian media institutions are working to combat false and misleading news that has spread due to the inadequacy of credible journalism.

The Swiss delegation, in turn, introduced its organization, explaining that it is a journalistic organization founded 30 years ago at the initiative of several Swiss journalists, and operates in 11 countries around the world to support societies facing challenges in rebuilding their national media.

The delegation stressed that its mission in Damascus aims to meet with Syrian media outlets, learn about their conditions, and discuss ways to provide support during the reconstruction and transitional justice phase.
