Washington, Ankara to discuss mechanisms for lifting sanctions on Syria on Tuesday

Ankara, SANA-The U.S.-Turkish Working Group is set to meet in Washington Tuesday to discuss the mechanisms for lifting U.S. sanctions on Syria, as well as ensuring security, stability, and the preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity, alongside other key issues.

According to Anadolu Agency, Turkish Foreign Ministry sources stated that the meeting will be co-chaired by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yılmaz and his U.S. counterpart Christopher Lando, taking place as an inter-institutional dialogue between both countries.

The talks are expected to address the policy priorities of both Turkey and the US regarding Syria, exploring potential areas of cooperation to enhance security and stability in the region.

Among the major issues on the agenda is the fight against ISIS and other terrorist organizations.

The meeting will also include discussions on regional efforts recently led by Turkey, as well as its support for the new Syrian administration’s counterterrorism efforts against ISIS.

Sources also confirmed that the meeting will review the mechanism for lifting U.S. sanctions on Syria, along with the timeline and proposed steps for implementation.

Additionally, Yılmaz is expected to emphasize the importance of multifaceted coordination between Turkey and the U.S. across political, economic, and security sectors, aiming to ensure long-term stability in Syria while safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
