The paved stone street in Shahba city, Sweida province

Sweida, SANA-The paved stone street downtown of Shahba city in Sweida province, is one of the most important monuments in the city, which dated back 2,000 years ago and is still used for traffic to this day.

The archaeologist Dr. Nashat Kiwan, said that this street is an important model of inner streets in cities, ancient towns of Mount Horan, more than 200 metres long, with a width of more than 10 metres, tiled with elaborate square stone sculpture that mimics the distinctive sculpture style of Old Shahba used in its architecture.

Dr.Kiwan articulated that this street is one of the most ancient streets that has maintained its shape in the Sweida province, especially after its restoration, and represents the remnants of one of the tiled Old City roads that existed during the Roman era.

He added that this street was the only one left and used by citizens as many multi-use shops and old houses are spread across it.

Shahba city is rich in many archaeological landmarks, including a theater, museum, bathrooms, and an imperial temple.
