UN Resident Coordinator in Syria denies sending UN mission to Syrian Coastal region

Damascus, SANA- The United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Adam Abdelmoula, denied reports regarding the dispatch of a UN mission to investigate or conduct inquiries in the Syrian coastal region.

In a statement published Monday on Facebook, Abdelmoula said: “Contrary to what is being circulated on social media and some international media outlets, the United Nations has not sent any mission to investigate or conduct inquiries in the Syrian coastal region.”

He clarified that such tasks can only be carried out with authorization from the UN Human Rights Council or the UN Security Council.

Abdelmoula added, “The United Nations’ efforts on the ground remain focused on delivering life-saving humanitarian assistance to those in dire need, while ensuring the safety and security of UN staff, humanitarian partners, and their families. The organization operates according to humanitarian principles, adhering to neutrality, impartiality, and independence in all its activities.”

The UN official emphasized that the United Nations remains fully committed to responding to humanitarian needs with transparency and accuracy.

He called on all parties to rely on verified and credible information when reporting on its activities.
