Syria welcomes UK decision to remove 24 Syrian entities from sanctions list

Damascus, SANA- Ministry of Foreign affairs and Expatriates welcomed the recent decision taken by the United Kingdom to remove 24 Syrian entities from the sanctions list.

This is a positive step that will provide the necessary relief to the Syrian people and contribute to facilitating the process of economic and political recovery in the country.

The British government’s decision includes lifting sanctions on financial institutions, oil companies and large national entities, including:

Financial institutions: Syrian Real Estate Bank, Savings Bank, Agricultural Cooperative Bank, Central Bank of Syria, Commercial Bank of Syria, Industrial Bank, People’s Credit Bank and Syrian Lebanese Commercial Bank.

Oil and energy sector: Deir Ezzor Oil Company, Dijlah Oil Company, Ebla Oil Company, Foreign Petroleum Trading Company, Pangates International Limited, Al Furat Oil Company, General Petroleum Corporation, Fuel Company, Syria Oil Trading Company (Sytrol), Syrian Oil Transport Company, Syrian Oil Company, Baniyas Refinery Company, Homs Refinery Company.

Major national entities: Cotton Marketing Corporation, General Tobacco Corporation, Fuel Company, and Syrian Arab Airlines.

The Ministry stressed that lifting sanctions on these entities would help alleviate economic pressures and facilitate basic transactions that benefit the Syrian people.

It hoped to take further positive steps to lift sanctions that have harmed the Syrian people, although they were originally targeted against the former regime.

The Ministry reiterated its call to end all economic restrictions that hinder the path to recovery and stability in Syria.
