Damascus, Oct. 27 (SANA) Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Kabawat met with Kevin J. Allen, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) representative in Syria, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in supporting returnees, displaced people and host communities.
According to the ministry’s Telegram channel on Tuesday, the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, focused on the importance of reactivating community centers in areas experiencing high rates of return, particularly in the countryside of Idlib, Aleppo and Hama.
The two sides also discussed the need to promote the economic inclusion of returning refugees and displaced people, helping them move from reliance on aid toward self-reliance while strengthening civil peace and social cohesion.
Earlier in March, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor signed a memorandum of understanding with UNHCR to establish a framework for cooperation, coordination and partnership in developing and implementing strategies and services that address the needs of returning refugees, returning displaced people, refugees, asylum-seekers and members of affected local communities residing in Syria.
