Damascus, Oct. 13 (SANA) A high-level bilateral meeting was held Tuesday between Syrian information officials and executives from Meta to enhance digital communication channels and explore technical collaboration across government institutions.
Minister of Information Khaled Zaarour met in Damascus with Fares Akkad, Regional Director for Meta in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), to address mechanisms for leveraging digital platforms to deliver public services and accurate information to citizens.
Discussions focused on utilizing Meta tools to streamline direct public communication, safeguard online user security inside Syria, and counter misinformation and rumors.
Deputy Minister of Information for Digital Media and Development Mohammad Tafran and specialized technical teams also met with Akkad to outline joint operational frameworks for digital media development.
The talks follow recent meetings on October 11 between Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdulsalam Haykal and Meta officials regarding the restoration of commercial platform services—including advertising tools and enterprise solutions across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—in the Syrian market.
