Damascus, October 7 (SANA) Units of the Syrian Army’s Border Guard Forces thwarted a smuggling attempt along the Syrian-Lebanese border in Jurd al-Maara in the Yabroud area of Damascus countryside.
The Ministry of Defense’s Media and Communications Department told SANA on Wednesday that the smugglers opened fire on the patrol during the operation, prompting the forces to return fire. An ensuing clash ended with the seizure of two vehicles and their cargo and the arrest of one of the smugglers, while the others fled toward Lebanese territory.
Syrian border guard forces continue to secure the country’s borders, combat drug and arms smuggling, regulate cross-border movement, and monitor any activity that poses a security threat.
