Aleppo/Idlib, Oct. 2 (SANA) Syrian emergency crews responded at 34 locations in Aleppo and Idlib after heavy rain flooded homes and tents, blocked roads and stranded vehicles, the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management said Thursday.
Teams were deployed to neighborhoods in Aleppo city and to communities and displacement camps around Atmeh, Aqrabat and Kafr Lusin in Idlib countryside.
Crews pumped water from homes, tents and essential facilities, reopened major roads and responded to soil and wall collapses. They also recovered vehicles stranded by the severe weather, the ministry said on Telegram.
Emergency teams remain on heightened alert as unstable weather is forecast to continue in the coming days.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong downdrafts have affected wide areas of Syria since Wednesday afternoon. The ministry said further heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and hail were expected, along with the possibility of strong downdrafts.
The ministry’s Early Warning and Preparedness Department urged residents to avoid valleys and low-lying areas during heavy rain and not to travel on flooded or hail-covered roads.
Fishermen and boat operators were also advised to exercise caution because of the risk of waterspouts.
